Massage - an industry in need of change

The average massage therapist’s career lasts only 3-5 years.

Though the massage industry is steadily growing, individual therapists aren't enjoying longer careers.  Why?  Injury and burnout are the most common reasons, along with financial instability.

Injury: Massage therapists spend much of their workday on their feet, using their bodies to apply pressure and perform massage techniques. It requires strength and stamina.  When asked to do back to back appointments, practicing self-care becomes all but impossible.

Burnout:  In addition to physical burnout, massage therapists experience emotional and mental burnout.  We’re not simply doing physical work; we're emotional sponges. Clients share their pain, stress, and life stories.  It's part of what makes this profession so rewarding!  But it can also take a real toll without a balanced work schedule.

Financial Instability:  Seeing back to back clients all day is not sustainable long-term.  Being a massage therapist isn’t like most occupations. You can't treat clients 40 hours a week, and you need regular breaks.  Employers typically control how many sessions you do per day, and how much time you get between sessions. Unfortunately, most employers (whether they are spas, massage clinics, chiropractors, hospitals, etc.) are focused on profit, not what's best for their massage therapists - or their clients!  Pay can be pretty meager, and schedules can fluctuate greatly.  Furthermore, most LMTs are employed as 'independent contractors' even though that designation is rarely accurate, so employers can save on payroll taxes and other costs.

What's being lost?  It takes time to build a solid client base, develop skills, and build up strength and stamina. Just as massage therapists are beginning to really excel, their careers end for the reasons outlined above.  The therapeutic connection and trust that was built between client and massage therapist is lost, leaving clients to start all over again with the next person.

Wellspring - Being the change that's needed

Owner's vision:

Working as a self-employed massage therapist since 2007, I now aspire to create a clinic that can serve as a new model for the massage industry, one that is ethical for both clients and practitioners.

You are paying for our service, I want you to leave feeling your best.  I know that starts with treating my therapists well.  Each massage therapist at Wellspring determines the numbers of sessions they can perform each day, and a weekly total that is sustainable for them to be able to give their best work every time.  I want them to have the time to get to know you and assess your needs, as well as care for themselves between appointments.  The massage therapists at Wellspring are employees of the practice, and valued team members.  I support their continuing education, and their individual interests and talents within the field.  When your massage therapist loves their job, you'll feel the difference!  Having various specialties means you benefit too - giving you a choice of who is best suited for your present needs.  There's a team here ready to work together to help you feel your best!

Wellspring Massage is dedicated to our clients.  In addition to making sure our therapists are ready to give you their best, we've made our clinic policies simple and clear.  Our pricing is all inclusive - there are no added fees for specialty bodywork or enhancements.  The length of your appointment is actual time on the table.  We don't lock you into complicated memberships or packages.  The premier massage we give, and personal connection that is fostered, keeps our clients coming back.

I invite you to come experience the difference!
